As you know, every year, March 8 is observed globally as International Women’s Day (IWD) to celebrate the achievements of women and call for action for gender equality.
The aims of Internation Women’s Day are to draw attention to issues faced by women and advocate for women’s emancipation. Education is the precursor of women’s empowerment. In order to reinforce the importance of this day in school, especially for girls and boys, schools may organize impactful programs/events in the week starting from March 1, 2023, and concluding on International Women’s Day.

The subject matter of the instructions in various subjects may focus on gender equality and women’s rights. For example, stories on women’s empowerment can be told in language classes, whereas social issues related to women and eminent people who strived for equal rights for women can be discussed in social science classes.
Special morning assemblies based on women empowerment may be organized which include talks on women achievers in various fields, role play, the thought of the day, group songs on women empowerment, and awards/recognition to girl students who have performed well in different fields such as academics, sports, dance, music, arts, social service, and other areas.
Local women who have been successful despite their struggles can be identified and their interactions with schoolchildren can be organized. Talks can also be conducted by women professionals such as armed forces, police, aircraft pilots, locomotive pilots, aerospace engineers, building and construction, scientists, etc.
Achievements of women sportspersons throughout the year should be highlighted and girls should be encouraged to actively participate in sports.
Women faculty members and staff may be honored for their significant contributions to the school and society.
At the school level, any problems/issues faced by the girl students in school or while commuting to school can be discussed and corrective measures can be taken. From a young age, boys can be encouraged to participate to bring up the concept of equality and mutual respect.
To create awareness about menstrual health and hygiene so as to reduce dropout of girls at secondary/senior secondary level.
