CBSE Launches Handicraft Book for Classes 6 to 8

CBSE launches  Handicraft book for the skill module on ‘Handicrafts’ for skill Promotion in the School Sector. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council (HCSSC) recently launched a student handbook for skill module on ‘Handicrafts’ for classes 6-8 in the capital.

The publication was launched by Sh. Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Chairman, CBSE in the presence of Chairman, HCSSC; Director (Skill Education & Training), CBSE, and CEO, HCSSC. CBSE offers ‘Handicrafts’ in the form of skill modules of 12 hours duration in classes 6-8.

This skill module on ‘Handicrafts’ focuses on practical activities and will provide a learning experience to the students. This handbook will consist of two modules, Paper Mache and Fashion Jewellery.

“I appreciate the efforts of the academic wing of HCSSC to develop this handbook for the students and do hope that this module shall help in creating awareness about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of India as have also been envisioned in the New Education Policy 2020. I also hope that such courses will help to build an entrepreneurial mindset among the students at a young age,” said Mr. Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Chairman, CBSE while speaking on the occasion.

Sh. O. P. Prahladka, Chairman HCSSC hoped that this module on “Handicrafts” will help in building aesthetic sensitivity, creativity, planning skills, problem-solving skills, and innovation among the students.

Sh. Krishna Kumar, CEO, HCSSC said that only recycled materials have been used in the practical activities given in the handbook which will help in inculcating good environmental habits among the students at an early age. All the tools and equipment required to teach this skill module can be easily procured by the school and are completely safe for the students.

Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education & Training), CBSE, informed that more than 700 schools have already opted to start this module and CBSE will organize training programs for teachers teaching this skill module to students.

Student’s Handbook/Workbook on ‘Handicrafts’ will be available on the Academic Website of CBSE.
