One activity under the CBSE Reading Mission is the CBSE Emerging Writers Program which aims to ignite the creative spark within students of CBSE Board by encouraging them to explore the art of storytelling. By writing and submitting short stories mentioned details below under this program, students of classes 5 to 10 get an exciting opportunity to express their imagination and ideas, as well as get a chance to see their work published, and hands-on, and meet renowned storytellers for children. This rich experience not only hones their writing abilities in this program but also nurtures their self-confidence and self-expression.

The CBSE Budding Authors Programme aims to provide a platform for students to learn to read and write different types of stories effectively. As students write and present short stories under this program, they will have a chance to express their creativity and watch them get published.

CBSE Budding Authors Programme 2024-25 Highlights

The students can submit their stories in Hindi or English in the following three categories:

Steps for CBSE Budding Authors Program 2024-25

Timeline: 5th April – 15th May 2024

• Schools will organize programs at their end from 5th April – 15th May 2024. Schools will nominate 1 teacher to coordinate this activity. Sharing information about this activity with all students.
• The teachers and students of CBSE School can register on the CBSE Reading Mission Platform cbseacademic.nic.in and access exemplar stories/ books in Hindi and English.
• Hindi/English/language teachers should encourage students to read at least 7 stories (available in the school library or on the CBSE Reading Mission platform) to help them participate in this activity.
• A unique login ID and password for this CBSE Author Budding program will be generated for each student at the time of registration in the Budding Authors Portal. The list of registered students of the program will be available to the schools on the above-mentioned portal as the final registration list.
• Schools affiliated with CBSE are requested to maintain records of ID and password.
• Give school students a week to read widely to prepare for the budding writer program. Some of the inputs for writing are in Annex I. These can be shared with the students.
• Later, schools will organize competitions within school hours where students will create and write short stories in either English or Hindi.
• Schools will complete the evaluation of entries and shortlist two students/participants per class for the next round of this program.
• Guidelines and evaluation criteria for submission of entries by students are to be shared as given in Annex II.

Online workshops

Timeline: 1st – 30th June 2024

• Webinar sessions on the topic “Techniques of Writing” will be conducted by this program experts through Webex for registered students.
• The link and schedule of this CBSE Budding Authors Programme will be shared on the email ID mentioned at the time of registration.
• Students of this program can develop/write their own stories during summer vacations.

Submission of stories

Timeline: 1st July – 15th August 2024

• The CBSE Affiliated School will share the unique ID and password with each student registered. Students of this program will use these as login credentials to write and submit stories on the technology platform.
• The link to write and submit stories will be available on the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) Academic Official website under the CBSE Reading Mission on 1 July 2024.
• Students of this program can develop, edit, and finally submit their entries by August 15, 2024.
• All students of this program who successfully submit their created short story will receive an online certificate of participation on the school e-mail ID; Once the final stories are e-published. Some suggestions and guidelines for this Programme for creating stories are in Annex I.

Evaluation and Publication

• In the second phase, the entries submitted by the students will be evaluated by a panel of experts.
• Shortlisted entries of this program in each category will be provided with editorial support to finalize their creation.
• The best entries selected at the national level will be published by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) in the form of a collection of short stories for each category.
