As envisaged in India’s New National Education Policy 2022, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) aims to create the skill training ecosystem at the school level and also aims to identify the potential skill development and vocational training courses to be introduced at an early stage of schooling in different types of schools in India such as government schools, private schools, public aided schools, schools run on PPP model and army public schools, etc.

To meet these objectives, the Central Board of Secondary Education, in collaboration with the NCAER (National Council of Applied Economic Research), is conducting two primary surveys, targeting different schools and students.

These surveys will help in identifying the courses being offered in the schools; their upliftment by the students; Barriers faced by schools in providing certain specified courses; the relevance of these courses at the school level; and so on. The insights gained from these surveys will also be used in conducting skill gap analysis at the state level.
