What is CAT Exam?
The common Admission Test (CAT) exam is a national-level management aptitude test that an applicant has to clear for admission to MBA courses offered by 20 IIMs and over 1,200 B-schools across India. Every year more than two lakh aspirants apply for the CAT exam conducted in computer-based mode (Online) for two hours.
CAT 2022 Exam question paper consists of MCQs and non-MCQs from Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA). The difficulty level of the CAT exam is moderate to high. Other than the MBA program, the CAT Exam score is valid for admission to Executive MBA, Ph.D., and FPM programs.

CAT Exam Notification 2022
CAT 2022 Exam notification is released Today on 31st July 2022. CAT exam is conducted every year by one of the IIMs; IIM Bangalore will administer CAT 2022 Exam. What’s New in CAT 2022 Exam?
- CAT exam notification was released online mode a day before the scheduled date. Till last year, the official notification of the CAT2022 exam used to be released on 31st July but this year it was released on 30th July.
- The CAT Application fee for General/EWS/NC-OBC applicants has been hiked from INR 2,200 to INR 2,300. For the SC/ST/PwD applicants, it has been hiked from INR 1,100 to INR 1,150.
- The total number of CAT 2022 exam cities has been reduced from 156 to 150.
- Among the acceptable professional degrees, Fellows of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) have been added to the CAT eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria of CAT Exam 2022
Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of aspirants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) categories], awarded by any university or educational institution incorporated by an Act of Parliament or a State Legislature in India or declared to be a University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or equivalent recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
Aspirants appearing in the final year of graduation degree/equivalent qualifying examination and who have completed the degree requirements and awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such aspirants, if selected, will be allowed to join the program provisionally, if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University or Institute ( issued on or before the date prescribed by the concerned IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
Aspirants applying for CAT 2022 should fulfill any one of the following conditions:
- Completed Bachelor’s degree with required percentage of marks*.
- Completed Professional Degree [CA/CS/ICWA/Fellow of Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI)] with the required percentage.
- Must be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with the required percentage. SC/ST/PwD applicants should have a minimum of 45%. For General, EWS, and NC-OBC applicants, the minimum is 50%.
The percentage of marks obtained by the applicant will be calculated on the basis of the practice adopted by the concerned University/Institute. In the case of Grade/CGPA, the change in percentage of marks will be based on the process certified by the concerned University/Institute. If a University/Institute confirms that there is no plan to convert the CGPA to equivalent marks, equivalence will be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.
IIMs can verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are given on the official website at iimcat.ac.in. Aspirants should note that mere fulfillment of the minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs. Aspirants will have to declare and maintain a valid and unique email account and a mobile phone number during the selection process.
CAT Exam Registration 2022
New Applicant Registration: Generate CAT User ID and Password:
- Applicants can visit the official website of CAT at iimcat.ac.in and click on the Register tab under New Candidate Registration.
- Enter all the details asked in the registration form such as name, email, contact number, date of birth, educational details, and other details.
- After entering all the details then click on submit button.
- Now, enter the OTP and Captcha code then click on the link “I Agree and Submit”.
- Your CAT User ID and Password will be generated and sent to the registered Email ID.
- Save it for future reference.
Fill CAT 2022 Application Form
Aspirants can login using the CAT User ID and Password generated in the previous step to fill the CAT Application Form 2022. The details given below have to be filled in the CAT application form:

While filling the CAT Application Form 2022, you will also need some scanned documents which are mentioned below:
Photograph | Recent photograph (not older than 6 months) in .jpg/.jpeg format. The file size must be less than or equal to 80kb. |
Signature | The signature of the candidate should be done only in black ink on white paper. Size of the image (.jpg/ .jpeg) should not be more than 80kb. The recommended dimension of the signature is 80mm x 35mm. |
Caste Certificate | Self-attested scanned copy of Candidate’s Category Certificate in PDF format. The maximum file size allowed is 200 kb. |
PwD Certificate | Download the PWD Certificate from the official CAT website. Fill in the all information, self-attest, and upload as a PDF file of 200 kb or less. |

CAT Exam Reservation Policy
According to the legal requirements, 15% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) applicants, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) applicants, and 27% for OBC applicants, in the “Non-Creamy” layer (NC-OBC), up to 10% for applicants belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and up to 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWD).

CAT Exam Center 2022
CAT 2022 Exam will be conducted in around 150 test centers spread across cities. Test cities will be mentioned on the CAT official website and the name of the test center will be indicated on the admit card.
IIMs reserve the right to change or cancel any examination center/city and/or change the time and date of examination at their discretion.
CAT 2022 Score
The CAT 2022 scorecards of the candidates will be made available on the CAT official website. Aspirants can also be informed personally by SMS. CAT Exam 2022 results are likely to be declared by the second week of January 2023. The CAT 2022 score is valid only till December 31, 2023, and will be available on the CAT official website accordingly. Thereafter, any query related to the issuance of the CAT 2022 scorecard will not be entertained.

Please note that each IIM is free to mandate its own eligibility criteria (including academic cut-offs and relative weightings) and follow different selection procedures. Performance in CAT 2022 exam is an important component to be considered in the selection process.
