The ATL Marathon 2022 is a national-level innovation challenge, where students identify community problems of their choice and develop innovative solutions in the form of working prototypes.
This year we celebrate India’s resilience, diversity, and achievements as it marks the beginning of its 75th year of independence. To celebrate this special year, ATL Marathon will draw inspiration from the innovation and creativity of the young minds of our country to develop a New India.

Theme of ATL Marathon 2022
The themes for this year’s ATL Marathon are Health Care and Nutrition, Education, Energy and Transport, Social Inclusion. To jointly curate the final 8 problem statements under the 4 topics above, students from India voted on the problem statements they most related to.
- Health Care and Nutrition
Find innovative solutions especially to solve the problems faced by the patients suffering from the most common diseases of India. You can choose one disease from this list given below or choose another disease to create the solution – diabetes, anaemia, tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid, or others. Innovate to create solutions to find new ways to address health and nutritional challenges like malnutrition, obesity, etc.
- Education
Innovate to create solutions to make education and learning inclusive and resilient for all children – those who do not have access to devices or the Internet (mobiles, laptops, TVs), those in areas with extreme weather conditions, No access to school (physical or virtual). Innovate to integrate soft skills (personality building, confidence, etc.), technical skills (digital and 21st-century skills), and innovation mindset into the curriculum for schools or colleges to ensure students have the skill-sets to become successful entrepreneurs/professionals.
- Energy and Transport
Invent a system that allows the rider/driver (motorcycle, the car, truck, and/or any other vehicle)/citizen (people and animals on the road) to improve safety and prevent road accidents. Find solutions that reduce the carbon footprint as well as adopt climate-resilient and low-carbon strategies to enable the transition to a truly sustainable India.
- Social Inclusion
Innovate to create a sustainable model for financial inclusion that will help India move closer to the poverty-free goal by providing accessible and affordable financial services to all. Creating solutions to build inclusiveness in society in terms of languages and cultures to enable localized access to information related to education, financial literacy, and government policies/schemes.

The marathon will be based on the document ‘Strategy for New India @ 75’ by NITI Aayog. This National Strategy Document for New India is a detailed description of forty-one important areas of national importance to achieve the objectives of New India by 2022-23.
ATL Marathon Instruction for Students
- Each team should select a problem statement, where schools identify community problems of their choice and develop innovative solutions as working prototypes.
- A team may submit entries in more than one problem statement, please note that you will need to fill out a separate application form for each problem statement in order to do so.
- There is no limit on how many teams from a school can participate.
- The online application form submission will include Research Document (description of the innovation or solution) and Video submission (capturing a 360-degree view of the working prototype or solution).
- ATL in charge, school teachers, change mentors, alumni, and external advisors from the local ATL ecosystem can support student teams.
- Each team will consist of a maximum of 3 students (classes 6th to 12th) and one ATL in-charge/school teacher (must be an employee of the ATL school). We encourage ATL schools to include other school and/or community students within the team structure as well.
- Please note, individual member entry is not allowed. Also if the team size exceeds the 3 member limit, the entry/submission will be immediately disqualified.
- The ATL Marathon is for Indian students currently enrolled in school (Class 6 to Class 12) both from ATL and non-ATL schools, in case your entry is selected as a finalist, the team members may be asked to provide proof in the form of a photo of your school ID-card or any other form as deemed appropriate by AIM, NITI Aayog. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of your entry.
Awards in ATL Marathon 2022
The Top 75 Teams will receive Tablets or Handheld devices as prizes. Additional prizes will also be given under different categories. Top 300 Teams will get Internships through the Student Innovator Program with leading corporates of India, certificates from AIM, NITI Aayog, and many more interesting opportunities at the conclusion of the Marathon. All participating students and teachers will get a certificate of participation from AIM, NITI Aayog.
How to Participate in ATL Marathon 2022
If you want to submit your Idea for ATL Marathon 2022 then follow the step given below. Before submitting ATL Marathon Entry, Please Read all-important instructions given above.
The document (300 words only) should cover aspects of the research (primary and secondary research) on the problem statement such as: why you have chosen the problem statement, the idea behind the innovation/solution, what techniques/technology did you use various technical components of the application/solution (eg cloud connect, database, etc.)
Step I: Visit the official website of MyGov at mygov.in or Click this link to “Submit Your Idea” in ATL Marathon.
Step II: After clicking the above link, ATL Marathon official website will open.
Step III: Click on the “Submit Your Idea” link given on the homepage.
Step IV: Login to your MyGov Account.
Step V: Enter all details asked in the form and submit your Idea.
Step VI: Click on the “Submit” button.
Last year, over 16,000 students participated in the marathon and presented their innovations. The top 300 teams interned with AIM’s corporate partners through the ‘Student Internship Programme’. The top 10 teams from each state and union territory also received certificates of excellence. There are more award categories this year.
This competition is open to all the students of India (ATL Schools and Non-ATL Schools) and is a great way to develop and improve an innovation mindset among the students. Through this Atal Marathon 2022 competition students research, think, innovate and finally implement their solutions over a period of 4 months to benefit their community, region and in turn, the country.
Principals of all affiliated schools are requested to encourage their students to participate in large numbers and be a part of India’s innovation journey.
